Rules and Regulations
Competition is open to Reisterstown, Owings Mills, and Glyndon Community Residents ONLY. If residency cannot be verified, contestant will be disqualified.
Contestants must be age 14 or older to be eligible to compete. Date of birth will be verified.
CONTESTANTS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST HAVE SIGNED PARENTAL/GUARDIAN PERMISSION(S).
A non-refundable $15.00 registration fee must be included with the completed registration form before the live audition will be scheduled.
Registration must be post-marked by Friday, ....... Once the completed registration form and registration fee are received, contestants will be notified of their audition time prior to ....
Any missing documentation as outlined on the registration form will result in immediate disqualification at the live audition.
Live auditions will be A Cappella.
Live audition, semi-final, and finale will be recorded, photographed and/or videotaped for future promotional opportunities.
Contestants will be responsible to provide all background and/or accompaniment music for all levels of competition(excluding the live auditions). The CD(s) must be labeled with the contestant's name, song, title, and original artist. The CD's will not be returned.
The songs selected for all levels of the competition must be family-friendly. Songs must not exceed 3 1/2 minutes.
During the entire audition and performance process, all lyrics must be memorized.
Contestants will be permitted to play a portable instrument provided he/she can carry it on and off the stage.
Attire must be appropriate for a community oriented event.
We expect a professional demeanor from all contestants. Profane language, as well as aggressive behavior is unacceptable. Any violators will be removed from the competition.
There will be rehearsals for the contestants who advance from the live auditions. Contestants advancing to the Finale will be assigned a mentor for assistance with preparation and will be asked to perform a choreographed production number with the other top ten finalists.
The Head Judge will be Dr. Bill Myers, Founder and Artistic Director of Maryland Sings, Inc. Dr. Myers is a skilled adjudicator and vocal coach/conductor and will be joined by three other well-known musician/vocal judges for the 2011 competition.
Judging will be done on a number scale in the following categories:
Tone Quality - Intonation - Breathing - Diction - Interpretation - Performance - Presentation - Song Choice
The highest scores will advance to the next level(s). ALL JUDGES' DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
First and second place prizes will be awarded at the Grand Finale presentation.
Current Maryland Sings students are not eligible to audition.
